Water water everywhere...

By the time you read this, the lake should once again be filled with (mostly) fresh water and the wildfowl will be happy again.

Let's hope that we've not lost too much in the way of duck and water life. Ralphie tells me that we've lost something like 90% of the tube worms which provide a primary food source, so we'll just have to hope there are enough left to recover.

Hi Mate, If I remember correctly there was quite a healthy looking population if quite large fish that hung out where the river flows in to the lake. Do you know if they've survived?

Grey Mullet, I believe they were. Cousin Dave and I tried to catch some a couple of summers ago, but they were too clever for us. I really don't know how well or if they've survived the extended drainage, but I do know they're hardy old buggers, so I'd be very surprised if they were absent for long. We normally get a load of fry throughout the spring summer which provide an excellent food source for cormorants and others, I'll keep an especially close eye on them this year.
