If it ain't broke...

Cruising up the nation's motorways has never been a favourite pastime of mine, but when the destination involves good food, excellent wine. company of the best and the possibility of some locomotive action combined with a spot of bird watching then it's worth the effort.

But before we get into holiday mode and the good bits about travelling, I need a word about Eddie Stobart.

Note the livery on the first Eddie Stobart lorry that we spotted en-route to Pickering. Instantly recognisable; we were ready to wave to the driver and check the cab's name.

Now look at the new look Eddie Stobart livery:

Call me old fashioned, but I can't see why Mr S thought the change to be a good idea. Have the marketing consultants finally got to him? The old version looks a hell of a lot better to me.

Once Shazzer had had it explained that the point of Eddie Stobart spotting is to see the name of each cab, she got quite into the whole idea. We saw Katie, Amy Beth and another one that I can't remember.

For the benefit of anyone who has never done Stobart spotting; every cab is individually named and has it's name emblazoned just by the front wheel arch. The name is always a girl's name, supposedly chosen by Eddie himself. Rumour has it that Stobart drivers are on orders to wave back to any motorist who waves to them - give it a try. It may sound a bit sad, but it helps the motorway miles to roll past.
