The Very Last Supper

And so it has come to pass. The D&C kitchen's ovens have grown cool. Last night was Russell and Mark's final night of catering to the Millbrookian hordes; perhaps fittingly it was curry night - always one of their most popular regular evenings.

Despite feeling as rough as a badger's arse (I'm off sick with the worst throat infection I can remember) it was an evening not to miss.

So popular was the idea of eating the last of Russell's curries that two sittings were organised; I believe there were something like 60 diners booked.

The kitchen was a hive of activity.

The pub was heaving.

Before too long, the call to table came and several hundred of us converged on the dining area.

And excellent curry was enjoyed by all. Except Grandma Dong the Legend who can't do curry but was much obliged as Russell offered an alternative, so he ate scampi instead.

Of course, a card and collection was sorted out. Dreckly, last minute, like.

Russell and Mark are still in residence as I write, they remain in charge today and tomorrow - the hand over to the new people is on Friday.

I reckon last night's turn out shows just how much we in Millbrook have appreciated, indeed loved, having Russell and Mark turn one of our pubs into a wonderful place to spend time. They've been a boon to the community and we're all really sorry to see them go.

Wishing you both the very best from the Daily(ish) Millbrook, guys. And in this instance, it's actually appropriate to quote the great Douglas Adams - "So long and thanks for all the fish [on Fridays]".
