Gigspanner in Kingsand

They came, they saw, they played, they drank, they feasted....

Gigspanner once again brought themselves to our wee corner on Saturday just gone before heading off to play again in Calstock yesterday and thence continuing their troubadouring all around the country.

I don't think I can write an actual review; this is the fifth time that we've been to see them play in Kingsand and the second year that some of them have been house guests here at Millbrooker Towers. They've become friends so objectivity doesn't really come into it.

Suffice to say that the trio of consummate, accomplished and outrageously talented musicians played a blinder; new material blending terrifically with the more familiar tunes and showcasing a band in the full flush of creativity. If you weren't there, you missed a genuinely thrilling musical event.

They also always look like they're having a ball. And they are.

As always, Mrs The Millbrooker and I enjoyed the more experimental and complex improv sounds that the boys produce in pieces like The Water Carriers ( to which you can have a free listen on the Gigspanner MySpace page). They've also kindly uploaded lots of other tracks including the long-time favourite stripped down blues of Sitting On Top of the World. Do click and have a listen. Then check Peter Knight's website for ticket buying opportunities at a venue near you. Go on, you know you want to.
